Vintage poster: Josep Maria Subirachs at the Galeria Seiquer, 1968

$150.00

Subirachs (1927-2014) was a Catalan sculptor and painter who is perhaps most famous for his contribution to Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família in Barcelona.

Subirachs was born into a working class family and lived through the Spanish Civil War as a a chid. Financially unable to fulfil his dream to study architecture, Subirachs began work at age fourteen in the workshop of a gilder and sculptor. In the 1950s, a scholarship allowed him to study in Paris and opened up important opportunities in avant-garde circles.

From the 1950s on, Subirachs made significant contributions to public sculpture in Catalonia. His monumental abstract sculptures are credited as crucial moments in the postwar revival of Spain.

This pencil-signed exhibition poster from the Galeria Seiquer in Madrid dates from 1968, the same year that Subirachs was commissioned to create a sculpture for the Mexico Olympics.

What we love about it: Subirachs’s design and how well it is complimented by the typography.

Dimensions: 43 × 34.3 cm (17 × 13.5”) unframed

This lithograph is in good condition and is signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. It has minor age-related creasing as expected. Note that detailed condition reports are available for all artworks upon request.
